🥩 Pepper Steak with Bell Peppers and Onion
Tender steak strips stir-fried with colorful peppers in a savory sauce
Ingredients:
For the Stir-Fry:
1 lb flank steak or sirloin, thinly sliced against the grain
2 tbsp soy sauce (for marinating)
1 tbsp cornstarch (for coating beef)
2 tbsp oil (vegetable or sesame)
1 red bell pepper, sliced
1 green bell pepper, sliced
1 small onion, sliced
2 cloves garlic, minced
1 tsp fresh ginger, minced (optional, but awesome)
For the Sauce:
¼ cup soy sauce
2 tbsp oyster sauce (optional but adds depth)
1 tbsp hoisin sauce or brown sugar (for a touch of sweetness)
1 tbsp cornstarch
½ cup beef broth or water
½ tsp black pepper
Optional: red pepper flakes for heat
Instructions:
Marinate the beef:
Toss steak slices with 2 tbsp soy sauce and 1 tbsp cornstarch. Let sit for 10–15 minutes while prepping other ingredients.
Make the sauce:
In a small bowl, mix all sauce ingredients until smooth. Set aside.
Cook the beef:
Heat 1 tbsp oil in a large skillet or wok over medium-high heat. Sear beef in batches (don’t overcrowd) for about 1–2 minutes per side until browned but not overcooked. Remove and set aside.
Stir-fry veggies:
Add remaining oil to the skillet. Sauté garlic, ginger, onion, and bell peppers for 2–3 minutes until slightly tender but still crisp.
Combine & sauce it up:
Return beef to the pan. Pour in the sauce and stir well. Cook 2–3 more minutes, until the sauce thickens and coats everything.
Serve hot over white rice, jasmine rice, or noodles. Garnish with sesame seeds or green onions if you’re feeling fancy.
🔁 Variations:
Want it low carb? Serve with cauliflower rice or lettuce wraps.
Add mushrooms, snow peas, or broccoli for extra veggie action.
Swap beef for chicken or tofu for a twist.
