Keeping strawberries fresh can be tricky since they spoil quickly β but with a few simple steps, you can extend their life by several days.
π How To Keep Your Strawberries Fresh for Longer
β 1. Donβt Wash Right Away
Why: Moisture promotes mold.
Do this instead: Only wash strawberries right before eating them.
β 2. Use a Vinegar Bath (Optional but Effective)
Mix: 1 part white vinegar to 3 parts water.
Soak: Place strawberries in the mixture for 5 minutes.
Rinse & Dry: Rinse thoroughly under cold water, then dry completely.
Why: Vinegar kills mold spores and bacteria.
β 3. Dry Completely
Use paper towels or a salad spinner lined with towels to gently dry berries.
Moisture = mold, so make sure theyβre fully dry before storing.
β 4. Store in a Paper Towel-Lined Container
Layer: Line a container with paper towels, place berries in a single layer (or gently layered), and cover loosely with a lid or plastic wrap.
Leave the lid slightly ajar for airflow.
β 5. Refrigerate
Store in the crisper drawer or near the front of your fridge where itβs slightly warmer than the back.
β Bonus Tip: Freeze for Later
If theyβre starting to go soft, hull, slice, and freeze them in a single layer on a baking sheet β then transfer to a freezer bag for smoothies, baking, etc.
