Air Fryer Toad in the Hole is a quick and delicious twist on the classic British dish, using sausages and Yorkshire pudding batter, but cooked in an air fryer for speed and convenience.
🐸 Air Fryer Toad in the Hole (Serves 2)
Ingredients:
4 pork sausages (or your favorite variety)
100g (¾ cup) plain flour
2 medium eggs
150ml (⅔ cup) milk
1 tbsp vegetable oil (or beef dripping)
Salt and pepper to taste
Instructions:
Preheat the Air Fryer
Preheat your air fryer to 200°C (390°F) for 5 minutes.
Cook the Sausages
Place the sausages in a lightly oiled baking tin or heatproof dish that fits your air fryer. Cook for 8–10 minutes until browned but not fully cooked. Remove and set aside.
Prepare the Batter
In a bowl, whisk together the flour, eggs, milk, and a pinch of salt and pepper until smooth.
Let the batter rest for at least 10 minutes (or up to 30 minutes for best puff).
Add Oil & Heat the Dish
Pour 1 tbsp oil into the baking tin.
Return the tin to the air fryer and heat for 3–5 minutes until the oil is hot and shimmering.
Assemble and Cook
Quickly but carefully remove the hot tin.
Pour in the batter and immediately add the sausages.
Return to the air fryer and cook at 200°C (390°F) for 15–18 minutes until the pudding is puffed and golden.
Serve
Serve hot with onion gravy, mashed potatoes, and peas.
✅ Tips:
Don’t open the air fryer while it’s cooking the batter — it needs steady heat to rise.
For crispier results, pre-cook sausages in a pan or oven first for deeper browning.
