Ingredients:
– 8 slices of thick-cut bacon
– 1/4 cup brown sugar
– 1/4 tsp cayenne pepper
– 1 loaf of French bread, sliced into thick slices
– 8 oz cream cheese, softened
– 1/4 cup powdered sugar
– 1 tsp vanilla extract
– 4 eggs
– 1 cup milk
– 1 tsp cinnamon
– 1/4 tsp nutmeg
– 1/4 tsp salt
– 1/4 cup butter
– Maple syrup for serving
Instructions:
Preheat the oven to 375°F. Line a baking sheet with foil and place a wire rack on top. Lay the bacon slices on the rack. In a small bowl, mix together the brown sugar and cayenne pepper. Sprinkle the mixture over the bacon slices. Bake in the preheated oven for 15-20 minutes, or until the bacon is crispy and caramelized. Remove from the oven and let cool. In a medium bowl, mix together the cream cheese, powdered sugar, and vanilla extract until smooth. Spread a generous amount of the cream cheese mixture onto half of the French bread slices. Top each cream cheese-covered slice with a slice of candied bacon and then another slice of bread to form a sandwich. In a shallow dish, whisk together the eggs, milk, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt. Dip each sandwich into the egg mixture, making sure to coat both sides. In a large skillet, melt the butter over medium heat. Cook the stuffed French toast sandwiches for 3-4 minutes per side, or until golden brown and cooked through. Serve the stuffed French toast warm with maple syrup drizzled on top.
