2 tbsp all-purpose flour
-
2 cups beef broth

1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce

Salt and pepper to taste
🔪 Instructions
1. Make the Hamburger Steaks
-
In a large bowl, mix together:
-
Ground beef
-
Breadcrumbs
-
Egg
-
Chopped onion
-
Minced garlic
-
Worcestershire sauce
-
Salt, pepper, and optional onion powder
-
-
Form into 4 oval-shaped patties.
-
Heat 1 tbsp of oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Brown the patties for 3-4 minutes per side until well-seared. They don’t need to be fully cooked yet.
-
Remove patties from skillet and set aside.
2. Make the Onion Gravy
-
In the same skillet, reduce heat to medium. Add 2 tbsp butter.
-
Add sliced onions and cook for 10–12 minutes, stirring occasionally, until golden and soft.
-
Stir in 2 tbsp flour and cook for 1-2 minutes to form a roux.
-
Slowly whisk in beef broth, breaking up any lumps. Add Worcestershire sauce.
-
Simmer until thickened slightly – about 5 minutes.
3. Combine & Simmer
-
Return hamburger steaks to the skillet with the gravy.
-
Spoon some gravy over each patty.
-
Cover and simmer on low for 10-15 minutes, or until the patties are fully cooked through (internal temp of 160°F / 71°C).
