The Famous KFC Coleslaw Recipe
Servings: 6–8
Prep Time: 15 minutes
Chill Time: 2–4 hours (or overnight for best flavor)
Total Time: 15 minutes + chill time
Ingredients:
- 1 small head green cabbage (about 8 cups), finely chopped
- ¼ cup shredded carrot (about 1 small carrot)
- 2 tablespoons minced onion (white or yellow)
Dressing:
- ½ cup mayonnaise
- ¼ cup buttermilk
- ¼ cup whole milk
- ⅓ cup granulated sugar
- ¼ cup white vinegar
- ½ teaspoon salt
- ¼ teaspoon ground black pepper
- Dash of lemon juice (optional, for extra brightness)
Instructions:
- Prep the Veggies:
Finely chop the cabbage (you want a very small, minced texture — a food processor works great!). Combine with shredded carrot and minced onion in a large bowl. - Make the Dressing:
In a separate bowl, whisk together mayo, buttermilk, milk, sugar, vinegar, salt, pepper, and lemon juice (if using) until smooth and creamy. - Combine & Chill:
Pour the dressing over the cabbage mixture and mix thoroughly to coat. Cover and refrigerate for at least 2 hours, preferably overnight. The flavor gets better as it chills! - Serve Cold:
Stir well before serving and enjoy that classic, nostalgic crunch.
Tips:
For extra authenticity, make sure the cabbage is chopped super fine — like the real deal!
Store in the fridge up to 3–4 days.
Pairs perfectly with fried chicken, BBQ, or sandwiches.
