Meaty Texas Trash Dip

A hearty Tex-Mex dip featuring seasoned beef, creamy cheese blend and refried beans, baked to bubbly perfection.

 

Ingredients

→ Meat Base

01 450g ground beef
02 1 packet taco seasoning mix
03 60ml water

→ Creamy Base

04 225g cream cheese, softened
05 240g sour cream
06 450g can refried beans
07 120ml salsa
08 115g can diced green chiles, drained

→ Seasonings

09 2 cups (225g) shredded Mexican cheese blend, divided
10 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
11 1/2 teaspoon onion powder

→ Optional Garnishes

12 Sliced green onions
13 Diced tomatoes
14 Sliced jalapeños
15 Chopped cilantro

Instructions

Step 01

Preheat oven to 175°C (350°F) and lightly grease a 23×23cm (9×9-inch) baking dish.

Step 02

Brown the ground beef in a skillet over medium heat until no longer pink. Drain excess fat. Add taco seasoning and water, then simmer for 2-3 minutes until liquid reduces.

Step 03

In a large mixing bowl, combine softened cream cheese, sour cream, refried beans, salsa, diced green chiles, half the cheese (about 1 cup), garlic powder, and onion powder until well incorporated.

Step 04

Fold the seasoned meat mixture into the creamy base. Transfer to the prepared baking dish and spread evenly. Top with remaining cheese.

Step 05

Bake in preheated oven for 25-30 minutes until edges are bubbly and cheese is melted and lightly golden.

Step 06

Remove from oven and add optional garnishes as desired. Serve hot with tortilla chips or fresh vegetable crudités.

Notes

  1. This hearty dip can be prepared up to 24 hours in advance and refrigerated before baking.
  2. For a spicier version, add 1/2 teaspoon of cayenne pepper or use hot salsa.
