🧀 Air Fryer Cheese Scones
Yields: 6–8 scones
Prep Time: 10 minutes
Cook Time: 10–12 minutes
Total Time: ~25 minutes
🛒 Ingredients:
-
2 cups all-purpose flour (plus extra for dusting)
-
1 tbsp baking powder
-
1/2 tsp salt
-
1/2 tsp dry mustard powder (optional, adds depth)
-
1/4 tsp black pepper
-
1/4 cup (60g) cold unsalted butter, cubed
-
1 cup shredded sharp cheddar cheese
-
3/4 cup milk (whole or 2%)
-
1 egg, beaten (optional, for brushing tops)
🧈 Optional Add-Ins:
-
1 tbsp chopped chives or green onions
-
1 tsp paprika or cayenne for spice
-
Grated Parmesan on top before air frying
🍽️ Instructions:
-
Preheat air fryer to 360°F (180°C) for 3–5 minutes.
-
Mix dry ingredients:
In a large bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, salt, mustard powder, and pepper. -
Cut in butter:
Add cold butter cubes to the flour mixture. Use your fingertips or a pastry cutter to rub it in until it resembles coarse breadcrumbs. -
Add cheese:
Stir in shredded cheddar and any optional add-ins (like chives or paprika). -
Add milk:
Make a well in the center and pour in the milk. Stir gently with a fork or spatula until just combined into a soft dough. Do not overmix. -
Shape the scones:
Turn dough onto a lightly floured surface and gently pat or roll into a round about ¾ to 1 inch thick. Cut into wedges or use a round cutter to shape scones. -
Prepare for air frying:
Lightly spray the air fryer basket with oil or line with parchment paper with holes punched in. Place scones in the basket, leaving space between them. -
Optional: Brush tops with beaten egg or milk for a golden finish.
-
Air fry at 360°F (180°C) for 10–12 minutes, or until puffed and golden brown. Check for doneness by inserting a toothpick (should come out clean).
-
Cool slightly and serve warm with butter, cream cheese, or even a little chutney.
🧑🍳 Tips:
-
Don’t overwork the dough. Keep a light hand to ensure fluffy scones.
-
Use cold butter and cold milk — this helps with flakiness.
-
Batch cooking: If making a large batch, cook in batches so they don’t touch or crowd the air fryer.
