This recipe fills you with all the great flavors of the North. You will save a lot of cooking time by using your Crock pot to make this savory pot of Great Northern Beans. The more I cook this recipe it seems I add something new each time.

Just a small addition such as fresh herbs or crispy bacon.

Beans are one of those vegetables that we just do not eat enough of. They are so filled with nutrition, they taste fabulous and so easy to make. Especially when you let the Crock Pot do the work for you.

There are so many variations for a great batch of Great Northern Beans. The ingredients included in this recipe are simple and basic. You can add or eliminate any ingredients you want.

Can I use broth instead of water when I add the liquid?

You could add some bouillon to the water, if you do I would say use a ham base or a Chicken base.

What are ham hocks?

Ham hocks are simply the lower part of a pig’s foot. They are actually quite meaty and add a terrific flavor to the Great Northern Beans.

Could I add carrots and onions to the Great Northern Beans?

Carrots and onions are a really good addition to the beans. They add another layer of flavor. If you do add carrots, be sure to chop them small as you do not want the carrots to overpower the beans. As for onions, there are some onions in the recipe. You could certainly add another type of onion to the mix.
