Ingredients:
For the Steaks:
1Β½ lbs ground beef (80/20 for best flavor)
Β½ cup breadcrumbs
1 egg
ΒΌ cup milk
1 tsp Worcestershire sauce
1 tsp garlic powder
1 tsp onion powder
Salt & pepper to taste
1 tbsp oil or butter (for frying)
For the Onion Gravy:
1 large onion, thinly sliced
2 tbsp butter
2 tbsp flour
2 cups beef broth
Β½ tsp Worcestershire sauce
Salt & pepper to taste
Optional: a splash of cream or a pinch of thyme for extra flavor
Instructions:
Make the patties:
In a bowl, mix together ground beef, breadcrumbs, egg, milk, Worcestershire, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper. Form into 4β6 oval patties.
Sear the patties:
Heat oil or butter in a skillet over medium-high heat. Cook patties until browned on both sides (about 4 minutes per side). Remove and set aside.
Make the gravy:
In the same skillet, melt butter and add sliced onions. Cook until soft and golden, about 10β12 minutes. Sprinkle flour over the onions and stir for 1β2 minutes to cook the flour.
Add broth:
Slowly whisk in beef broth and Worcestershire. Stir and simmer until thickened (5β8 minutes). Season with salt, pepper, and optional thyme or cream.
Smother the steaks:
Return the patties to the skillet. Spoon gravy over each one, cover, and let simmer on low for 10β15 minutes to let the flavors meld and patties finish cooking.
