  • 1 pound lean ground beef
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 8 cups chopped romaine lettuce
  • 1 cup diced tomatoes
  • 1 cup diced pickles
  • 1/2 cup diced onions
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
  • Sesame seeds (for garnish, optional)

For the Special Sauce:

  • 1/2 cup mayonnaise
  • 2 tablespoons ketchup
  • 1 tablespoon sweet pickle relish
  • 1 tablespoon finely minced onion
  • 1 teaspoon white vinegar
  • 1 teaspoon sugar
  • 1/8 teaspoon salt


  1. Cook the Ground Beef:
    • Heat olive oil in a skillet over medium heat.
    • Add the ground beef, salt, and pepper. Cook until the beef is browned and cooked through, breaking it apart with a spoon as it cooks. Drain excess fat if needed. Set aside to cool slightly.
  2. Prepare the Special Sauce:
    • In a small bowl, mix together mayonnaise, ketchup, sweet pickle relish, minced onion, white vinegar, sugar, and salt. Set aside.
  3. Assemble the Salad:
    • In a large salad bowl, layer the chopped romaine lettuce.
    • Top the lettuce with the cooked ground beef.
    • Sprinkle diced tomatoes, diced pickles, and diced onions over the ground beef.
    • Drizzle the special sauce over the salad.
    • Sprinkle shredded cheddar cheese over the top.
    • Optionally, sprinkle sesame seeds over the salad for garnish.
  4. Serve:
    • Toss the salad gently to combine all the ingredients and distribute the sauce.
    • Serve immediately and enjoy!
